The Trump regime cut food assistance and Medicaid and called it efficiency. Hawaii lost nearly $3 billion in federal support due to that reckless slashing. So Gov. Josh Green looked at the rich and said: you pay. Green signed a new law last week. A 13% tax bracket lands on every dollar of income above one million. The 2024 tax cuts for over 90% of Hawaii households stay locked in. Green also signed a separate $31 million in emergency funding to the Department of Human Services to fill the gap from Trump’s Medicaid and food assistance cuts—real money replacing what Republicans ripped out. The regime stole food off the table. Hawaii taxed the rich to put it back.
